Gay had kept a huge collection of picture postcards sent by HWM mainly to May that date from around 1906 onwards.
There is often only a brief but affectionate message. There are also a few cards sent by him to the children and from the children to May or other family members when they accompanied their father on one of his voyages. Most of the cards are sent from ports around Europe including Helsinki, St Petersburgh, La Rochelle, Deauville, San Sebastien, Porto, Lisbon, Cadiz, Catania and Savona. At various times, each of the children (except Gay who was too young) visited Finland which, along with Cadiz and Lisbon/Porto, was a regular route. The dates of many are obscured because of the popularity of stamp collecting at the time. These are a selection including all sent to and from the children.
